59 gender options - reference list
When I first began to learn about the gender identities outside male and female, I thought the extra two I'd heard were a ton. It didn't make sense why there would be so many. While that's still mostly true, over time, I've to understand that they're all more alike than not.
Lot's of genders are like something else, come from another word, or are traditional categorizations from elder cultures. It's not as if these group popping up out of thin air, we're simply putting words to things people have felt forever. Most of the names are even quite similar to one another but reflect that person's culture and personality. It's difficult to explain in words, but it's a lot easier to understand how they're all connected if you see them together.
Today, I saw someone ask for a list of genders they could use for a project. So, I did a little researched and pulled together this list. I hope it helps for whatever reason you need it. I'll mostly use it to remind myself to keep an open mind. You should keep in mind that while these include identities from around the world, they're very clinical and won't capture the full spectrum of gender queerness.
